As you cross Albert Street and head north, stop for a minute and imagine the streets covered in fake snow and the shops in candy cane décor!!
At any given time, there is a small chance you'll encounter a film crew in downtown Winnipeg - and sometimes their sets will be delightfully festive. Both Hallmark and Lifetime Canada film some of their annual holiday movies here on Winnipeg streets. The charm of Winnipeg's Exchange District, with it's 120 turn of the century heritage buildings, work as backing sets for quaintly Christmas-y small towns.
In 2019, nine holiday films were shot in Winnipeg. Some of the movies that you may have seen include Merry & Bright, Christmas At The Plaza, Radio Christmas and No Time Like Christmas. Take a look at the pictures in the stop description from the films and try to match them up to buildings on the street around you!
Other popular filming locations in Winnipeg include Red River College on Princess Street, the Fort Garry Hotel, and a variety of old homes on Wellington Crescent and Ruskin Row.
Now let's make our way to the next stop for a peek at Winnipeg's own local filmmaking.
