Alright. We're going to get a bit of a neck workout on this one. If you look to your left, or West, and look up. Way up. You’ll see a big, circular, glassed enclosure on top of the high rise. It looks a bit like a crown.
Want a little adventure? Take the outdoor glass elevator 28 floors up alongside the building and you'll be inside that crown. Prairie 360, is a 200-seat revolving restaurant overlooking the city. Sunsets are spectacular and honestly, so are thunderstorms. Snowstorms can be very pretty too, but they’re much better from inside, looking out!
Built in 1986, the base of Fort Garry Place, the body to that crown, is four stories of office space, shopping and parking. There are 3 towers rising from this complex, each with 900 apartments. The north tower, the one topped by Prairie 360, has 4 more floors than the other 2.
You may have noticed that Garry is a popular name around here. That’s because Nicholas Garry, sent here in 1816 to navigate the merger of Hudson’s Bay Company and their arch-rival, The Northwest Company, influenced history in a huge and very unique way. He kept a diary of his experiences that has been read, re-read, examined, quoted, lectured on and written about throughout the years. It’s actually still available on Amazon.
