Audio Excerpt
Welcome to Gravelbourg! … or as I should say for this question, bienvenue a Gravelbourg (french accent)! Well, the small multicultural town is actually about 30 minutes to the South, but there was NO WAY I was attempting to say that in French! A large portion of Gravelbourg’s population consider French their mother tongue! They even have a special name, the Fransaskois! There are tens of thousands Fransaskois living in 32 French rural settlements across South Western Saskatchewan. Another fun fact, Gravelbourg was part of the 1300 km Red Coat Trail built way back in 1874!
The town of Gravelbourg is mentioned in a pretty famous song by a well known, and well travelled, artist! Any idea what song that was?
A) I’ve Been Everywhere - Johnny Cash
B) Small Towns & Big Dreams - Paul Brandt or
C) Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers Band?
If you answered A, I’ve Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash, you can cash that cheque! Gravelbourg was listed as one of the places Johnny has been, right after Parkersburg and before Colorado! Hmmm maybe we should write a song about places on this Tripvia tour.. We’ve been to.. Gravelbourg, Parkbeg, Swift Current, Waldeck, Tompkins, Chaplin Lake, Rush Lake, Moose Jaw… hmmm that’s pretty good… maybe I’ll bust out the cassette tape and make a demo! Juuuuust kiddding…… I’ve heard the fastest way to super stardom is something called YouTube...now if I could just figure out where to find this magical tube..
