We all know about the sacrifices young Canadian men made during both World Wars, but the contributions of women on the homefront should not be overlooked. Welcome to Grenfell, located just North of the highway and home to one of seven chapters of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire!
No, this is not a Star Wars fan club, the IODE was established in 1909 and gave practical aid to soldiers. Perhaps most importantly, if they were killed, they gave support for their dependents and cared for their graves!
Their motto reads: ’One Flag, One Throne, One Empire’. Which empire were they talking about? Was it,

The Daughters of the Empire had the British Empire in mind, since back in the early 20th century, Canada was still in colonial dependence. Even though Canada is now an independent country, the IODE continues to function and provides scholarships, bursaries, book prizes and awards, and pursues other philanthropic and educational projects in various communities across Canada.
Well that’s pretty awesome, buuuuut I kinda wish they could teach me how to use the Force just like …. Darth Vadar …. I … I mean Luke Skywalker…. Of course I’d be on the good team… right?..... Or would I?
