If you take a look to the North you’ll see Gull Lake… and if you look to the South and you’ll see the town of Gull Lake! While your looking to the South, you just might see some wind turbines in the distance.  This wind farm provides power for Gull Lake which was the first community in Saskatchewan to get a portion of it’s power from wind! Part of that power went to .. .… power.. another first for the small community, the internet! Gull Lake was also the first rural community to get high-speed internet…. and subsequently the first community to binge watch all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad in a single weekend!

 

Gull Lake is situated on what was once part of the 76 Ranch and is home to The 76 Ranch House, built in 1888 and one of southwestern Saskatchewan’s oldest buildings. The 76 Ranch at Gull Lake was one of several ranches established by the Canadian Agricultural, Coal and Colonization Company.. Oh and boy was it ever big!  Just how big you ask, well you tell me! Was it, 

 

1. 100,000 Acres

2. 10,000 Acres or 

3. 5 Mega-Acres?

 

If you answered B, 10,000 acres.. Complemeti!  That’s congratulations in Italian! Eventually, agriculture superseded ranching as the main industry and by 1912, Gull Lake was booming! I’ll tell you what else was booming, Walter White’s little side business for all you BB fans out there!
