If you take a look across the street, you'll see a big building on the corner that says "Hudson's Block".
When it was built in 1889, it served as a store for the iconic Hudson’s Bay Company, which opened in 1891! This store was at the forefront of modern merchandising in Calgary and became the centre of trade in the city.
Eventually in 1907, this property would be bought by the Royal Bank of Canada. Since then it's been home to a number of different businesses and remains a focal point in downtown Calgary.
Now if you keep walking, just around the next corner on the right you'll see a horse!
The “Mechanical Horse” sculpture is made almost entirely of scrap metal and mechanical materials! Since it was installed, this piece has attracted both Calgary’s citizens and tourists for it’s great photo potential! So feel free to stop and snap a pic!
