As you've uh, probably noticed, you've been walking the shores of a pretty nice lake. The name Lake Couchiching comes from the Ojibwe word 'gojijiing', meaning "inlet". It's a medium sized lake at 16 km long and slightly less than 5 km wide.
If it's summer, you've probably noticed a boat or two full of people enjoying the summer sun. Cooch, as the locals call the lake, is known for pretty much every fun thing you can do on the water, except maybe white water rafting, I don't think you'll find any class 5 rapids around here.
If you're listening to this in the winter... GO INSIDE! sheesh, what are you even doing? Just kidding, winter activities are fun too, as long as you dress appropriately. In the winter you'll see a lot of ice fishing huts, plus a hockey rink or two!
Fun fact, The Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs, aka (CIPA), is Canada's oldest organization devoted to studying and publicizing current issues affecting Canada and public policy. Founded in 1932, it holds an annual conference every August right here on the shores of Lake Couchiching.
