Well look at that, you made it to the Olympic Plaza! I now award you the silver medal! I know, it’s not gold, you’re just going to have to hustle a little more next time. Just kidding. You're gold in my eyes!

This beautiful plaza was specially built in 1988 for the Calgary Winter Olympics Medal Ceremonies. Obviously you can’t go around having Medal Ceremonies every day for 30 years, so it had to find a new purpose since then! Now it’s used as a general meeting area and outdoor event space. For five months of the year between November and March, you can come down here and ice skate too!

The Olympic Plaza is home to Calgary’s only outdoor refrigerated ice rink! You’d be surprised at how many people can fit in here. More than 30,000 people squashed in here to celebrate the Calgary's Flames’ run to the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals. Better in here than the city streets, right Vancouver? Too soon?
