Just to the right of you is the amazing Palace Theatre! I'm sure you can figure out where this one is! Since opening in 1921, the Palace Theatre has been one of the hottest tickets in town! Back then, it was actually a kind of luxurious silent movie theatre called a movie palace. Now today we might see going to the movies as a fun way to kill a couple of hours, but back then it was quite the event!

The Palace Theatre auditoriums weren’t just a bunch of seats and a screen, they also included a space for an orchestra and vaudeville acts! Adding to the Theatre’s historic career, Calgary’s first radio exhibition was held here in 1922!

At this exhibition, an audience sat and listened to a broadcast by the Calgary Herald, in which three members of the Palace orchestra performed! Even though we’ve transitioned out of silent films, you can still catch all kinds of shows at the Palace Theatre today!
