Audio Transcript

The Queen Elizabeth the second gardens highlights an impressive view of the Saskatchewan legislative building. The legislative grounds include paths, gardens, recreational spaces and walkways. The gardens are recognized as one of the best examples in Canada of a landscape developed according to a city based master plan.

The significance lies in its departure from the standard grid plan, resulting in an emphasis on symmetrical designs, treed areas and civic grandeur. Just a few years ago iIn 2005, the gardens were officially named the Queen Elizabeth the second gardens. They were dedicated by the queen herself on may 18 of that year to celebrate the 1 hundredth anniversary of the legislative building and the fiftieth anniversary of the Wascana Centre authority. Since then, they've undergone a $300,000 renovation, resulting in the incredibly beautiful gardens you see here.
