Audio Transcript

The scouts Canada monument you see here was dedicated in 1965 to 60 years of boy scouting in Saskatchewan. Scouts Canada provides programs for young people aged 5 to 26, with the stated aim of helping to develop well rounded youth better prepared for success in the world.

In his 1981 book, '75 years of Scouting in Canada', by the late scouts Canada archivist Robert Milks, he indicated that the first scout groups in Canada were founded in 1908.

Saint Catherine's and Merikvale are mentioned as the locations of the first Boy Scout troops. The Boy Scouts association was formed in the United Kingdom in 1910. It is been claimed that its founder Baiting Powell wrote to Earl grey, the governor general of Canada in 1910, to ask him to organize Scouting in Canada.

If you take a stroll around the monument you'll find engraved with a popular boy scout motto.
