It’s All my exes live in Texas by country legend George Strait of course! Wait a tick.. Uh oh.… I think I read that read wrong.. Ah shoot.. This question isn’t about George Strait.. It’s about the Georgia Strait.. Gah how embarrassing! I guess it does make sense though, the Georgia Strait is pretty close!

 

The 240 kilometre long body of water is an arm of the Pacific ocean that separates Vancouver Island from where we are, the mainland. The Georgia Strait is also known as a premier scuba diving and whale watching location! 

 

The first European exploration of the area was undertaken by Captain Jose Maria Narvaez and Pilot Juan Carrasco of Spain in 1791.  Well he wasn’t flying an airplane, sooo what do you think the position pilot entailed? Was it,

 

A - A sailor especially good at navigating rough or congested harbours, B - an apprentice working to become ship Captain, or C - a captain from another ship along for the ride?

 

The answer is A! A pilot was essentially a realllly good sailor who had expert knowledge of the waters they were navigating!  When the Georgia Strait was discovered, Francisco de Eliza gave it the name,  "Gran Canal de Nuestra Señora del Rosario la Marinera."  I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that means, ‘all my exes lives in Spain, so I moved my life to Canada’ (sing like the song at beg.. Change lyrics if need’
