Ready for a spooky ghost story? The incredible building you're in front of now is Hotel Fort Garry. Built in 1913, and like any old, spooky looking building, it's rumoured to be haunted!
The most famous haunting is a chilling love story. Appropriate, when you think this is one of Winnipeg's favourite places for weddings and romance!
As the story goes, a bride, feeling sick on her wedding night, asked her husband to get help. Tragically, upon leaving the hotel, he was killed in a freak accident. When she learned of his death, overcome with sadness, she took her own life, desperately hoping to be re-united in the hereafter.
Either that, or she was murdered by her dead husband’s father. It’s a little unclear. But whatever happened, she seems to still be in room 202.
Some see her white gown floating before them. Others feel her presence everywhere. Lights flicker where her body was discovered, all kinds of creepy things happen!
She isn’t the only apparition who frequents the hotel, though. There’s a singer who performs in the Palm Lounge, a ghostly dinner guest, a murdered employee roaming the basement and someone in a kilt who apparently has quite an annoying sense of humour!
Ghosts aside, this chateau-style railway hotel is very representative of CN hotels all across Canada. Fine wood accents, marble staircases, magnificent chandeliers, domed ceilings - every room is a beautiful work of art.
And so is the next place we're going to see!
