If you take a look to your left, you'll see a building with bars across the windows.
Now if you have little ones listening, just an FYI, this point of interest has some adult content. I'll give you a second to hit pause, turn down the volume, tell your kids to plug their ears, or do whatever superhuman parenting skill you do best.
Alright, let's talk about the jail.
Cold and unfriendly, the Vaughan Street Jail once held “offenders” as young as 5 years old.
An American serial killer, Earl Nelson, AKA the Dark Strangler, or Gorilla Killer, was hanged here in 1928, after being convicted of 2 murders committed in Winnipeg. You know a criminal is bad news when they have not one, but two nicknames, both involving murder. Sheesh.
Now thankfully, there's a bit of a, less sinister, surprise hidden next door at our next stop!
